Typed with 2 thumbs

My boyfriend may have alluded to the possibility that I'm having an affair with my iPhone. While that seems weird and highly unlikely, not to mention kinky in the nerdiest way imaginable, I do love it as much as one can love an object. It's everything I thought it would be back when I first began imagining all of the cool things it would do.

It does all that stuff and more and will only become more impressive as more apps get developed for it.

Its most impressive feat so far? It inspired a rare post here. Cool huh?

Project iPhone

Well, I was hoping my next post would be from my super awesome brand new iPhone. Unfortunately, I just cannot bring myself to wait on line for 3 hours in order to obtain that little piece of deliciousness. Yes, the lines around here are STILL that long. While I'm a huge fan of Apple in general, this is one area where they have caused a huge letdown. They have not handled the demand of this new release even remotely well. So HMPH to that whole situation. I'll let you all know when I get my hands on one, likely in the next week or so, when the hype has quieted to a dull roar. In the meantime, if you are the proud owner of the new iPhone, I'd love to know what new little applications are most helpful to you. This little GPS helper looks especially good to me, and will probably be the first thing I shove onto my phone. I always always get lost and forget where everything is. My sense of direction just needs a little help sometimes.

Right now, I'm watching the season premier of Project Runway, so I'm temporarily content. Every season, the designers get exponentially more badass. I will pick my favorites and let you know who the winner will be later.

MacHeist II

If you are a mac person, or aspire to be a mac person, this is something you should be signing up for immediately. It's a way to get lots of very useful and often very cool mac applications for free, and later, more (expensive) applications at a hugely discounted price. Also, a portion of the profits go to charity.

There are so many ridiculously talented programmers out there, creating newer, better ways to be productive, or more entertaining ways to waste time. MacHeist features some really cool new applications before they become the next best thing, and you can get them for free.

There is some computer nerdery involved, but you can totally cheat, if you don't have the time or patience to solve all of the very intricate and frustrating clues. It's not a secret, you just go to the back room of the forums, and there are always walk-throughs of the individual heists, so you can just follow the directions and collect your loot. It's not as much fun, but you still get all the stuff.

If you aren't a mac person, here is where I not-so-silently mock you for being a sucker. Not really. Ok, I do, but only because I know that you deserve better. And because mac people are cooler than you.

iPod envy

As I'm sure anyone who follows Apple Geekery can tell you, the new iPod was announced today. It's basically the iPhone without the phone. Internet? Yup. WiFi with Safari, Google, YouTube, iTunes music store (Which you will be able to access for FREE from Starbucks). Cool, bigger touch screen that shows music videos, TV shows and movies? Hell yeah. You know what else? iTunes is going to have ringtones for the iPhone. Ones you can make yourself with a built in thingy (highly technical term) in iTunes, including stuff you've already purchased and downloaded. 99¢ each.

Just a sign that Apple is already working on all of the things everyone has been bitching about regarding the iPhone. Sofware updates are going to fix all kinds of stuff. New iPod storage and battery life are getting better and better, which means the next generation iPhone will be, too. It can't be too far away. Already, they've marked down the 8GB iPhone to $399.

***Geek Disclaimer: Surprisingly, I have no affiliation with Apple or any of its products, partners or affiliates. I just dig them.***

It's important to note that I can easily be bought bribed convinced to say many more complimentary things about all sorts of new products (my powerbook is getting quite old, for example) if Apple decides to hand them over to me...purely for marketing purposes, of course.

Aren't geeks hot? Settle down, boys. I'm totally taken.

The Hype Lives...and weird me

I know it's everywhere, but it deserves to be. Will sell blood (and my 2 iPods) to have it. Notice that the image I chose to admire this gadget before it even came out was pretty close to the final product.

Lots of people have a "100 things about me" list on their blog. If you paid me, I couldn't sit down and write out that list. What I can do instead, is share some idiosyncrasies or quirky things, and perhaps, this will eventually get stuffed into a list. Sometimes I'll add this new feature as an individual post, but I will also just stick some randomness on the ends of posts if they pop in my head.

(uncommon) things that offend my senses in some way:

sneakers: they're ugly. Yes, even the ones you really love. They're ugly, too.

vertical blinds: Really just hideous. They are the window dressing equivalent of an office cubicle. Institutional and strictly functional. Sorry if you have them...perhaps you should consider a nice roman shade, or blinds that go the way they're supposed to: horizontally.

monster stores: We've discussed this before. Walmart, Target, Sam's Club, BJ's, whatever other place you can buy underwear, a lamp, and groceries. This is just an awful trend, and I really hope that there is a serious backlash. Would the other end of the pendulum be a little NYC style bodega on every corner everywhere? That would rule. But they would have to be the cute ones with all the flowers (see photo). They're open 24 hours a day, people. And the world would smell delicious all the time. Ok, you'd have to go to another place to get your underwear and housewares, but stop being so lazy.

*I think the ads that are chosen to be listed here are often very funny. At the time of this posting, there was one for GAY CARS!!! That rules. I went there (not by clicking the ad, of course, as that would be against the rules for me to click, but you totally can), and just so you know...it's very likely, according to their listings, that your car is, indeed, gay. Take that, homophobes!

people being (maybe too?) creative

I think some people have been taking National Creativity Month really seriously.

I love me some coffee, but I am far too sleepy in the morning to get into any of this:

click pictures for more

If anyone would like to come over in the mornings to create fun pictures in my latte, you may apply for that position via comments.

These people are really into two things I love: Photoshop and the (please, please, please) forthcoming iPhone

For those of you who are mac-centric, you likely are aware of MacWorld in a few days. If you're planning on going, feel free to pick me up one of those when it's announced there. Thanks.

Then there's the guy who makes portraits out of gum:

The fact that it's tacky is fitting...cheese might be a better medium for that particular model, though.

MacHeist

If you're a mac person and you haven't heard about it, I highly recommend you check out MacHeist. It's a clever site that's giving out lots of free applications for solving puzzles. Some of them are really involved and require super geekdome, like looking through code to find clues, but luckily, there is a back room of the forums that allow us less geeky people to solve them, by totally giving us the answers helping us along.

Some of the applications given away so far:

Picture Framer Widget
To Do Tracker
DrawIt
iPulse
Alarm Clock Pro
1Passwd
Cha-Ching
Soulver

There are still plenty of heists to go, and there are also discount coupons given for other software bundles.

Go get some free stuff.
